Buried Within

It fell upon the midnight grass,
Bent and broken.
Lost to all who loved it dear,
Never to return…

She picked it up and held it tight,
Wiped away its drying tears.
Washed away the dirt and grime,
Interred it in her womb.

Bound its strands in golden string,
Bright against the red.
Locking all the pain away…
No more will it dread.

And as she falls to deepest sleep,
It awakes within her dreams.
Crying an endless stream of tears,
It breaks her heart.
