And... BE3 updates from Bethesda

Heyyy, everyone! It's been ages since I made a game update, and what better place to pick back up than with Bethesda at E3. I will confess that I originally tuned in solely to get the Clouded-Senche Leopard mount and 5 Ouroboros Crown Crates, but I was quickly overtaken by the energy and love of the showcase. Clearly, I was not the only one. At peak, over 280k watchers tuned-in to see what's new and upcoming in 2019 as Bethesda unveiled a multitude of games in the works. Let's run through them.

-Elder Scrolls: Blades, Bethesda's mobile ES game, will be coming to Nintendo Switch in Fall 2019. The topper on that particular cake? Not only will it be free to play, but anything done on mobile WILL carry over to the Switch. That's pretty freaking fantastic news for those who have been playing on mobile and would like to be able to play on the larger screen of the Switch.

-Fallout: 76 - One of the first things the Bethesda team did upon taking the stage was to admit that Fallout: 76 received a lot of criticism and, more importantly, that it was well deserved. They thanked the player base for sticking with the game and for helping to shape the world. The news they brought with them to E3 is that they have the biggest update yet in the works for Fallout: 76, it will change the game as players know it, and it's called Wastelanders: 76. From the trailer, we know that people have started to unexpectedly come back from the Vault, and players must "clean the wasteland before it cleans [them]." Wastelanders: 76 will introduce new NPCs, full dialogue trees, and, best of all, it will be free for all Fallout: 76 players. For those who haven't yet played Fallout:76, a free trial will be starting tomorrow, June 10th, and running through to the 17th. Have fun!

-And still on Fallout: 76 - Bethesda announced Nuclear Winter, a new 52-player Battle Royale mode for Fallout 76. I, for one, am super interested in seeing how that plays out, especially since it will be free for those who own the game.

-Starfield - in the works.

-Elder Scrolls: 6 - in the works.

-Ghost Wire: Tokyo - If there is only ONE game, other than ESO, that I can play from all the ones they announced tonight... it will be this one. Tango Gameworks'  team is working on big things in Tokyo with a paranormal / supernatural action adventure game which will find you fighting paranormal enemies as you try to rid the city of supernatural evil. As Ikumi Nakamura said, “it’s spooky”. The plot? People are mysteriously vanishing in Tokyo and you need to figure out why. Your job? "Explore the world, face challenges, save humanity." As you progress through the game, you will meet both antagonistic and peaceful spirits, and survivors with their own distinct stories. Are they normal or paranormal? It will be up to you to figure it out.

-Elder Scrolls: Online - Matt Firor took the stage and announced, "ESO has dragons" and yes sir, yes it does. Dragons in game, and dragons on the development team - supernatural beings with grand imaginations that keep us all wondering what's coming next. With the Season of the Dragon in full swing, prompted by Elsweyr's launch a few days ago, it seems that ESO is on a winning streak. The past year has seen Game of the Year awards, millions of new players, and a need to add more server support to help keep everything running smoothly. So what's new? Elsweyr has us visiting the homeland of the Khajiit, raising an undead army as necromancers, and just generally saving the world as we do. So what comes next? Bethesda unveiled the world premiere trailer of Dragonhold, set to be released in Q4, and it was glorious. Abnur Tharn, mounted, and riding into battled against a dragon while the world burns around him. A mysterious masked figure - our hero? - jumping in to help save the day as horror and flames appear in the eyes of Princess Khamira. ... You know what? Just watch it.

OMG! Sai Sahan! He's back, people! Sai Sahan is leading the Dragonguard, and the last part of the Elsweyr story will feature him. Until then, you can find more announcements later this summer at Quakecon, and don't be disheartened. You won't have to wait until 4th quarter for more of Elsweyr. Keep your eyes and ears peeled for Scalebreaker, releasing in August.

-Commander Keen - Kira Schlitt came on stage to ask us to "imagine a classic Saturday morning cartoon in mobile free to play style." Commander Keen is set to be a modern take on the classic story of Billy and Billie, twin geniuses who imagine up and create gadgets from common household items. The game will give you the chance to go on adventures while experiencing storymode, comprised of both classic and new tales. "Combat aliens, collect power-ups, and explore Mars and beyond." The game is set to soft-launch this summer on iOS and Android phones, and you can visit GoKeen.com to preregister and get pre-launch rewards.

-Elder Scrolls: Legends is a mobile card game, and a great way to pass the time. The next expansion is coming June 27th Moons of Elsweyr - and you can get the game free from the App Store.

-Rage 2 – The critically-acclaimed, open-world shooter is about to get even better (and crazier) with a slew of new features – new characters, new monsters, new enemy factions, new gameplay modes, new cheat codes, new vehicles, new weapons. "Welcome to the Wasteland – they are coming" in the Rise of the Ghosts expansion.

-Wolfenstein: Cyberpilot - Jerk Gustafsson of Machine Games came out on stage to announce the first of two new Wolfenstein games this year – Cyberpilot. As an intrepid hacker working for the French resistance, you will be able to take control of Nazi war machines in order to use them against the villains who created them.

-Wolfenstein: Youngblood - The second Wolfenstein game for 2019 is Youngblood, releasing this summer, and it will be bigger than any of the previous games, incorporating "more weapons and weapon upgrades than ever before." The game will offer plenty of ways to customize your playstyle, as well as even more Nazis to kill. Best of all? You'll be able to shoot and stab all those Nazis with a friend! Wolfenstein is going co-op - Wolves Hunt Together.

-Deathloop - Arkane Lyon Studios' Dinga Bakaba and Sébastien Mitton popped in to announce their latest first-person action game, Deathloop. The game will take place on a frozen island, named Blackreef, during a period of insanity. "The more days I repeat, the longer I’m out here, the more certain I am what I have to do." The game looks fast-paced and intense, and extremely interesting. Definitely adding it to my must-plays.

-Orion - So this isn't a game, but it was an announcement. James Altman (Director of Publishing, Bethesda) and Robert Duffy (Chief Technology Officer, ID Software) came onstage to present new streaming technology. From them, Orion will:

  • optimize game engines in a cloud environment
  • will improve player experience
  • is 20% faster per frame
  • provides a dramatic decrease in latency
  • streams with lower bandwidth

Steaming games will "be faster and better, and cost less, for players and publishers. Visit Slayersclub.com to be on of the first to stream Doom 2016 using Orion."

-Doom: Eternal - The newest entry into the Doom series will focus on creating an entire universe, and will feature an Earth overtaken by demons and on the edge of total annihilation. You will be able to visit the Sentinel homeworld and beyond in what "promises to be the ultimate power fantasy." Play as the Doomslayer, the "fastest demon-killer in existence," as they engages in hand-crafted combat in an immersive world that draws you in and keeps you there. Every enemy is different, every weapon has a purpose, and every decision makes an impact.

-Doom: Battlemode - Doom's multiplayer experience – "pure Doom, but with your friends." Demon strategy versus player skill. As 2019 marks the 25th anniversary of Doom, there will be more to share at Doomcon (a.k.a. Quakecon).
